New Year, New Me?

We are just going to ignore the fact that it has been *cough cough* months since my last post. That is what a new year is all about after all. Starting new habits, ending old ones.
I think the “New Year. New Me.” that is popular right now is really not accurate. The goal is to create a new you. You aren’t the new you yet. It gives you an easy excuse not to keep up with your resolutions. “Well, it’s okay if I skip the gym today, I’m a new me already.”
In a society where immediate satisfaction is becoming more and more the norm, we need to remember that the same doesn’t work for our bodies and minds. I can get the latest electronics delivered to me in two days (or less if I want to pay for it). I can use an app to have food delivered to my home, or even my work. But I can’t spend two days at the gym and have a brand new body. I can’t use an app to order home delivery of a cure for anxiety.
Remember that a resolution is something that is going to take time and commitment. You are building something, improving something, becoming something that you want to be. I’ll try to remember that too.
So, here’s to a new year, an improving me.
